On another note, I have something very, very exciting that I’d like to introduce and share with you all. There is something really intriguing and beautiful that has arrived, a new publication off the press, by another author quite unknown but very close to my heart. This author has won my respect by a commitment to truth, love and purity, and I almost desire to make this author’s work the theoretical underpinning of The Blossoming House. Indeed, maybe one day our intellectual collaboration will be not only mutually enriching for our sites, but societally transformative.,,,
Okay, okay…. The author is ***drumroll***……….my husband! Hahahaha. You probably guessed that already.

Jonathan: “It has been quite a while since I wrote anything on this blog. But I am very excited to announce something that has been very long in the making. In 2009 (16 years ago now!), I came to know Jesus. I grew up knowing the good news of Jesus. But the pattern of my life was much the pattern of this world, and my aims were of this world. This was especially true of my art making as a musician. When I came to know Christ, it seemed to me that my musical pursuits were shaped mostly by godless goals and desires. These motivations drove me in the deepest place of my creativity. Because of this, I underwent a profound disillusionment regarding artistic work, as I had little sense of how to view it Biblically, and as my habitual way of approaching artistic work was ungodly. Several times, I had contemplated giving up on artistic work altogether. With the encouragement of my parents, I continued to pursue my musical studies. It was here that I began a long journey of heart-searching and Scripture-searching, as well as broader reading on whatever subjects seemed relevant to how a Christian should view the arts. Over these many years, I kept copious notes, and always hoped to be able to publish the fruit of my labours in a book.
Well, today (or, rather, yesterday) is the day! I just released my little book, Loving God with the Arts: Foundations of the Moral Significance of the Arts. This book represents a small portion of the research and thinking I’ve done over the years. As the title suggests, this is a book of foundational thinking. It states the obvious fact that we must, and we do, make moral assessments on the fruits of the creative arts. It answers the following questions: What is the Biblical foundation for these assessments? And is there a Biblically consistent approach to morally evaluating art, and to evaluating the creative processes involved in our own art making? Biblical categories are used to ground an approach that is consistent and rich, and which addresses the complexities of the subject.
It is my prayer that this book will be helpful to anyone who desires to develop their thinking on the moral tendency and significance of the arts, and that together we can do the greatest amount of good that we can through the arts.
