“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands”
Have you ever gone outdoors to read a Psalm? Have you ever read it aloud in a place of nature? I think I’ve brought my Bible outdoors once or twice, but I haven’t done so in an intentional manner for actually quite a long time. Many of the Psalms speak about God’s beautiful creation, so it seems only fitting to read them while beholding it, as a prayer to God.
“Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth.”
Creation shows how we have an intelligent, wise, bounteous and magnificent Creator. We see this in the creatures that majestically prowl the jungle floors or swing through the maze of vines, the monsters that lurk in the midnight zone of the ocean with their gigantic dinner plate eyes; we see it in the diversity of plant life on islands and in naturally tie-dyed flowers that adorn the gardens of kings’ palaces. And we see God’s glory in creepy crawlies weaving webs in our own backyards, tiny eggs budding new life behind the bark of trunks in national parks or swimming through the waters of sparkling lakes as we slowly push the pram on a nearby path.
Next time you go outdoors, look up and around and consider the wondrous works of God. Then find a good place to recite or sing a Psalm to praise His name.
